Is “Kilay” Really Life? Why I’m Over the Instagram Brow

So let’s talk brows. I know this is maybe gonna hurt some people but I am so over Instagram brows! What are Instagram brows? It’s the defined strong brow, with the lighter, squarish portion near the inner corner of the eye, becoming darker and more defined towards the tail. It’s also called the “fade” and is actually a drag technique used to feminize masculine features (Wayne Goss, 2014)!

So to show you why I don’t like Instagram brows, I made up myself with the Instagram brow on one brow and a more natural brow on the other.

These are the results! Note that I used a lighter shade of pencil than usual and took these photos in DAYLIGHT to make the result more obvious.

Instagram brow (top) vs “natural” brow (bottom)

They both look good on their own without a full face of makeup, but how about with makeup on?

Instagram brow (left brow) and “natural” brow (right brow)

See the difference a slightly less stronger brow makes? The reason that too strong brows don’t look good with a full face of makeup on is because they take the focus away from your face. They don’t tie the look together and just looks odd compared to the rest of your face. Check out how I like to do my eyebrows HERE. Now that’s just my opinion, and you can do whatever you want, but personally I am over them!
