Love It or Hate It | January – February Haul

It’s finally March! Which makes Beauty & the City blog 1 month old πŸ‘πŸΌ Every end of the month, I’ll be sharing all of my purchases and mini-reviews of each product. Since I only started blogging this month, I’m also including some of my January purchases. So let’s begin!

Japonesque 912 Foundation Brush

Verdict: Love it! Perfect size for my face, gets the right amount of cream and liquid foundation, doesnt leave streak marks. I also use it to apply loose powder when I need precision. Only downside is it’s quite hard to clean!

Purchased from: Beauty Bar

Cost: P990

Benefit Erase Paste

Verdict: Love it! Completely removes my undereye discoloration. I use it over foundation and under concealer. Only downside is you need to set it with powder otherwise it settles into lines.

Purchased from: Benefit

Cost: P1500

Sigma Girl Color Pop Brush Set

Verdict: Love it! Sigma is one of the best brush manufacturers in the world. This was my first brush set from them and it didn’t disappoint at all. Doesn’t shed, doesn’t change shape, super easy to clean, and of course does the job. These are smaller than their regular brushes I think because they are from the “Sigma Girl” line but for a small girl like me, they are perfect. Okay, downside: My Zoeva brushes that are slightly cheaper even if bought individually are just as good. So if you’re not into collecting brushes, pick and choose carefully!

Purchased from: Sephora.ph

Cost: P1374

Sephora Medium Shopping Bag Palette

Verdict: Dont love it, dont hate it. This palette literally has everything for your face: a large mirror, cream and powder eyeshadows, lip gloss, highlighters, blushers and bronzers. What I like about it is it’s super compact and is really value for money given the amount of product you get for the price. What I don’t like about it is they dont have enough matte shades for eyeshadow, I prefer lipsticks over glosses, and all the bronzers inside are shimmery.

Purchased from: Sephora.ph

Cost: P1642

Zoeva 230 Pencil Brush

Photo from Sephora Australia

Verdict: Love it! Zoeva never disappoints. Doesnt shed, easy to clean, applies product perfectly, retains shape, just overall it’s perfect.

Purchased from: Sephora.ph

Cost: P486

Covergirl Stay Luminous Natural Glow Foundation

Verdict: Dont love it, dont hate it. Okay at first I thought I loved this product because I thought it perfectly matched me and felt lightweight. But! After using it a few times, I realized I got a slightly stinging sensation when putting it on my face! At first I thought it was from my toner or moisturizer, but I changed those and I still felt it! Then I also realized it was half a shade darker and too warm on me 😭 So I dont hate it because it was my fault I didnt notice the shade difference in-store, and also because it looks nice and isn’t drying when I wear it although it’s not that comfortable on my skin.

Purchased from: Landmark

Cost: P795

Maybelline Hyper Ink Eyeliner

Verdict: Hate it???!! The tip is too thick so it gets too much product from the bottle at first but then dries out so easily because it also deposits too much product! It also gets in my eyelashes and is so hard to remove once it’s on them. Even if it’s cheap, they could have made the applicator thinner. The product itself is good, not patchy, doesnt dry too quickly but I will have to use a different applicator to use this.

Purchased from: Watsons

Cost: P149.50

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

Verdict: Love it! Creamy and effective for concealing undereyes and minor pigmentation. However, it will be too thin for concealing blemishes like scars and pimples. Feature here.

Purchased from: Landmark

Cost: P299

Maybelline Colorshow Eyeliner Pencil

Verdict: Dont love it, dont hate it. It does the job in adding a smoky effect on my top and bottom lashlines but it can break when you put too much pressure on it.

Purchased from: Landmark

Cost: P149

Maybelline Powder Matte Lipsticks

Verdict: Dont love it, dont hate it. It is lightweight and easy to use but the Touch of Nude shade isn’t nude at all but more pink or coral than a brownish rose. And the Barely There shade is a pale pink instead of a beigey pink like in the promotional photos. Detailed review and swatches here.

Purchased from: Watsons

Cost: P199

MaxFactor False Lash Effect

Verdict: Love it! Super lightweight, not clumpy, yet still volumizing and lengthening?! Plus it dries so easily and the wand is also easy to use. Easy to layer and add more coats. Waterproof, smudgeproof, removes easily with waterproof makeup remover.

Purchased from: SM

Cost: P795

L’oreal Micellar Water

Verdict: Love it! Removes makeup easily even waterproof makeup. Leaves a sticky sensation that is easy to remove by rinsing with water. Doesnt hurt or dry my skin. However I might repurchase from a different brand once I run out!

Purchased from: SM

Cost: P250

Sleek Face Contour Kit in Medium

Verdict: Dont love it, dont hate it. The contour shade is good for my skin tone and very buttery and easy to blend but the highlight shade isn’t very highlight-y at all. It’s too muted unless youre going for just a subtle highlight. But if I’m going for a subtle highlight I would use a cream highlight, not a powder.

Purchased from: Landmark

Cost: P470

Loreal Brow Artist Genius Kit

Verdict: Dont love it, dont hate it. The powder and wax shade looks super nice on the palette and it would be the perfect shade for natural-looking brows but it’s not very pigmented. I feel that it takes too much effort to fill in my brows using it as compared to a pencil with the same shade.

Purchased from: Landmark

Cost: P400

W7 Banana Dreams Loose Powder

Verdict: Love it! Buttery soft, fine, and helps to conceal redness and match my concealer to my skin tone.

Purchased from: BeautyMNL.com

Cost: P449

Pro Studio Pan Brush

Photo from BeautyMNL.com

Verdict: LOVE. IT. It is sooo easy to use, super soft, removes fallout and excess powder. It can also be used for bronzing, contouring, highlighting and setting — it is such a good brush for powder! Doesnt shed aside from the initial wash and is also really easy to clean and maintain!

Purchased from: BeautyMNL.com

Cost: P649

Pro Studio Disposable Sponge Puffs

Verdict: Hate it for powder. It gets too much powder and at the same time doesnt get enough powder. It gets powder in only one area and even if you rub it together the powder just falls off the puff and when you use it for your face it doesnt deposit it properly. I think it was made for creams and liquids, not for powders.

Purchased from: BeautyMNL.com

Cost: P180

Celeteque Brightening Toner

Verdict: Dont love it, dont hate it. It’s not too harsh or dru buuut it sometimes leaves a stinging sensation on my face that I didn’t get with my other toners. Havent used it enough to say whether it really “brightened” my face.

Purchased from: SM

Cost: P200? Dont remember.

Celeteque Undereye Brightener and Dark Circle Lightener Eye Cream

Verdict: Dont love it, dont hate it. It does feel refreshing for my eyes when I use it but of course there isnt any immediate visible effect, so I dont know if it will work on me.

Purchased from: SM

Cost: P200? Again dont remember

Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipstick in Divine Wine

Verdict: Love it. Love the shade, love the consistency, love how flattering it is, love how comfortable it feels. Feature here.

Purchased from: Landmark

Cost: P199 (discounted)

Ever Bilena Oval Brush

Verdict: Love it! Soft and dense enough for blending of both powders and creams, but I mainly use it to blend bronzer. Review here.

Purchased from: Watsons

Cost: P250

Mumuso Mascara and Felt-Tip Eyeliner

Verdict: Love it! The eyeliner is dual-ended with a thin tip and a fatter tip making it easy to use. It does feather a bit and takes some time to dry, but not too long compared to other products. Plus the eyeliner doesnt get in my lashes unlike the Maybelline. The mascara is a two-step mascara with step 1 like a black lengthening primer and step 2 a thickening mascara. It looks really really black and long but it also takes some time to dry, so you have to be patient with it. But it doesnt smudge or run unless you really cry a lot, so I don’t think it’s completely waterproof, but waterproof enough. πŸ˜‚

Purchased from: Mumuso Lucky Chinatown

Cost: P149 each

And that’s all of it — I think. πŸ˜‚ Hope this helps you in planning out your future makeup purchases!
